WORTH IT!!! We could barely contain ourselves while reading book 3 in the series! We were hooting and crying. This is seriously worth your time for an emergent reader. It fits perfectly in with any history unit on the expansion of America.
Gary Paulsen is a super author especially for boys. He has a way of making words come to life. Mr. Tucket is a high-adventure book about a wagon train going out west along the Oregon Trail. Francis, a 14-year-old boy, is taken prisoner by indians. He is rescued by a one-armed mountain man named Mr. Grimes. They have quite the adventures as they become friends. I am currently reading the book to my 4th grade class. You know you have a winner when the whole class (boys and girls) groan when I stop reading it each day!
This is such a wonderful book to enliven the adventurous spirit in any young person! And if the reader enjoys it as much as my children did, you'll be delighted to know there are many more in this series.
Awesome book! Used it for a fifth grade novel study about the Oregon Trail.
I am an adult, but I loved this series. Gary Paulsen knows a lot about
how to take care of yourself in the wild and his experience gives Francis'
adventure a sense of authenticity. And Francis has great and exciting
adventures. These books are really clever and exciting.
My favorite book series from childhood. I only hate the new book cover art . Besides the cover; the story is just as I remember it.
Grand Son read as a Class requirement. He now wants me to order the next book. I say that's a pretty good review from a 10 year old.
