Despite my initial impression I found myself enjoying this book more and more as I got into it. The suspension of disbelief is a little steep in the first two chapters and I thought at the time a little cartoonish with the primary enabler being a cross between a demi-god and a Stepford wife, both of these being later referred to by the author with a rather cheeky tongue in cheek poke at his own presumption. Keep an eye out for references made to other publications with similar themes, even I dream of Jeanie and Bewitched get cameo appearances. This sometimes not so subtle self denigration by the author I found to be very attractive and despite my first impressions I found myself being drawn in progressively in the second half thoroughly enjoying this story despite some rather preposterous assumptions regarding certain technologies (no spoilers).

If you prefer your fiction straight up with a dash of pragmatic cynicism this is not the book for you but if you want a nice fun read with a large portion of male (sorry ladies) fantasy fulfillment this should do nicely.

In short, slip the brain into neutral and coast for the first couple of chapters and then slowly slip it into gear for the remainder, you should enjoy it with a tall drink over a long weekend.

The story line is very unique and engaging right from the start. The book has a deep political philosophy behind it, and I enjoyed the intelligent characters. I loved the discussions, and the fact that the book isn't preachy; it's a great story that makes you think by yourself. I actually read it in three days during my finals. I couldn't stop reading, haha...

Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great book, interesting story, and something to think about afterwards.
